I'm making a list, checking it twice. Okay, it's not my list, it's Katie's. She's always better than me at organizing and with our trip to San Diego in just over a week, it's all about being organized. Shopping, returning, family parties, and so on.
Heading out of town with 3 kids is no picnic. Of course there's the packing, trying to get out the door, and getting to the airport. But the scariest part will be the actual traveling. Would it be better to be on longer flights with shorter layovers, or shorter flights and longer layovers. Well guess what? We have chosen one of each. And the best part? Schlepping the kids and all there stuff through security, through the terminals, and finally getting them to their seats and having them behave.
A word about airport security. I have yet to fly since the new screenings, but doesn't it look inviting. Either get to stand in the "Esto es un robo" position, or get tickled in the most ticklish parts. Anyway, we'll be showing up earlier than before just in case.

"Are you crazy? You don't feed a baby chili!" -Doris, the TV repairwoman, Mr. Mom
Claire is our BIG eater. Parker calls her "Baby All Gone". Kenley calls her "Ginormica". While that isn't really food related, I still think it's funny. Here is what she had for lunch today:
1 1/2 pieces of French toast
1/2 a banana
1/2 of a peanut butter sandwich
about 2 oz. of my chicken that wouldn't fit in my taco
And for those that think she might not be eating enough for breakfast, she had:
Kenley's Corn Pops that she didn't want
Honey Nut Cheerios, when Kenley decided what cereal she wanted
More Corn Pops when Parker woke up and had breakfast
Craisins, when she saw that Parker had them in his cereal
And by the way, she seasons her own food with salt and pepper, just like the rest of us. Monkey see, monkey do.

"I'm going to sleep on the FAT couch, if I can fit through the door"-Jack Butler, Mr. Mom
What I'm thankful for. My first Thanksgiving with family in years.(We used to do "Fakesgiving" around my work schedule. The San Diego family is the best for putting up with me.) Having Katie's grandparents so close we have a large group of family to share holidays with. The snow we received on Thursday. And, The Kenley Family Fitness Challenge.
About the fitness challenge. First off, Kenley isn't just my daughter's name, it is my Mother-in-law's maiden name, but more about that in a different post. Back in San Diego last year, all of Katie's family participated in a "Biggest Loser" style weight loss challenge. Katie had been wanting to do something similar up here and get her cousins involved. It is based around more than just wight loss, it includes healthy living habits. Points are earned for things like drinking 48 ounces of water a day, five servings of fruits or vegetables, no eating sweets(except on Sundays, our free day), a minimum of 100 minutes of exercise per week, and so on. To participate, there is a $35 entry fee, weekly weigh in, and a points check in on Sunday. I was reluctant to do it. I didn't think I could give up my snacking and I didn't want to lose the money. I told Katie I would support her and do most of the changes with her, but not as an official competitor. On the last day to commit to the challenge, I decided to enter it. That was the second week of October.
Fast forward to today. I wasn't huge, but I was definitely gaining weight. Walking up my stairs at home, I started to feel a little more jiggling than there should be.To date, I've lost about 15 pounds, 3 inches off my waist, and my moobs. But the best part is, we feel better. Katie is doing a great job too. We eat better. We are exercising more than we have in a long time. Even our kids are noticing that we don't eat the junk we used to and even expect us to exercise. The down side? When anyone in the family gets together, it's all we talk about. We talk about points, exercise, healthy eating(dinner ideas and recipes), cravings for anything sugary, and on and on. I'm sure it's annoying to anyone not involved, and to them, I'm sorry. It will all be over on December 19th. I almost forgot the prizes. There are CASH prizes for the top finisher for the men, and the top two women(because there are two times the number of women than men in this thing). Winning the money would be great, but the most important thing is the changes we will make that will keep us healthy.
Here's a picture of me in late summer. It shows a nice beginning of a double chin and an expanding belly. Sorry, but I didn't have any pics of my moobs.

"Honey, you gave me some real good advice once, so let me give you some of my own. It's real easy to forget what's important, so don't." -Jack Butler , Mr. Mom
Here we are. Five months into our recent move and things are going great. Katie's job is going well. I'm about to finish my first semester back at school. Kenley is in preschool. Parker is starting with his speech therapist. And Claire is walking at chattering and thinking she is just one of the big kids. I'm so grateful for the opportunities we've had. Going back to school, being able to spend so much time with the kids, the weekends at Grandma Teddy's cabin, the first snow of the season. All of this has made the move so worth the move. I know Katie misses her parents and siblings, but it has been so positive for our family.
With the upcoming holiday season just around the corner, I'm getting excited about the time I get to spend with Katie and kids.I had been working for restaurants and hotels for the last 11 years, mostly as a Pastry Chef. The holidays usually meant that I would be working long and late hours. Not this year. I will be having Thanksgiving with my family. I will be having Christmas with my family. I will spend New Year's Eve with my family. Do you see a pattern? My five year old daughter can. As much as I'm excited about it, I think my wife and kids are even more so.
